Jerwood Arts renews support for young artists at Glyndebourne

Jerwood Arts is to fund career-changing support and professional development for emerging soloists at Glyndebourne by continuing to support the Jerwood Young Artists programme.

We are very pleased to announce that Jerwood Arts is to fund career-changing support and professional development for emerging soloists at Glyndebourne by continuing to support the Jerwood Young Artists programme.

As part of Jerwood Arts’ newly announced £1million commitment to early-career artist development programmes, Glyndebourne will receive £30k per year for 2023 and 2024 to run the Jerwood Young Artists programme.

The Jerwood Young Artists programme at Glyndebourne started in 2010, and offers up to four aspiring soloists career-changing support and professional development over a full Festival season from April to August. Through the programme the singers work with leading conductors, directors, choreographers, theatre specialists and vocal coaches to enhance their skills and experience. Each of the young singers come to Glyndebourne as choristers with very little or no experience of performing for a leading UK opera company. It is our aim to transform their trajectory from choristers to emerging solo artists that have the skills and experience to go on to have successful careers in the UK and internationally.

‘Twelve years from first supporting the Jerwood Young Artists programme at Glyndebourne, the impressive career trajectories of the singers speak for themselves’ says Jon Opie, Deputy Director of Jerwood Arts. ‘Glyndebourne’s bespoke and dedicated support to developing their voices and giving paid roles in the chorus at the Festival and beyond provides an unparalleled experience.’

‘Jerwood Arts share our interest in supporting artists at vital stages of their careers’ says Steven Naylor, Director of Artistic Administration. ‘Such opportunities are essential to equip young soloists for an international career on the opera stage.’

Our Jerwood Young Artists for 2023 will be announced early next year.
