The Glyndebourne Sinfonia

Find out about our highly acclaimed Glyndebourne Sinfonia.

THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED GLYNDEBOURNE SINFONIA WAS FORMED IN 1990 AND IS RESIDENT AT GLYNDEBOURNE FOR ITS AUTUMN PROGRAMME EACH YEAR.

The Glyndebourne Sinfonia (formerly the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra) assembles each year and comprises a diverse mix of highly talented and committed freelance players.

The quality of a performance stands by what is presented on stage and, equally importantly, played in the pit. The Glyndebourne Sinfonia makes a significant contribution to the success and stature of the autumn programme, delivering a wide range of repertoire with distinction and versatility.

‘[The orchestra] sounded as if it’s played this stuff for years. It was a dazzling display by what is, after all, a non-permanent seasonal band.’

La Traviata review, Opera Magazine, 2018

‘Rory MacDonald conducted the Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra with energy maintaining the forward motion as well as eliciting the rich lyricism of Puccini’s luscious scoring.’

La bohème review, Bachtrack, 2022

‘The use of historically informed performance elements – natural trumpets, skilfully embellished continuo playing on fortepiano and cello – resulted in an ideal balance between stage and pit. It bowled along freely and wittily.’
