Arts Council England 2023 - 2026 National Portfolio funding

An update on our application to join Arts Council England’s 2023 – 2026 National Portfolio

Arts Council England has supported Glyndebourne’s autumn Tour and year-round Learning & Engagement programme for many years.

Although this activity is significantly underwritten by our financially-independent summer Festival, Arts Council England’s contribution has been important in enabling us to create exceptional operatic experiences with and for communities across England.

Our application to join Arts Council England’s 2023 – 2026 National Portfolio was successful, though the funding offered is at a lower level than we had applied for. Glyndebourne has been offered annual funding of £800,000 per year between 2023 and 2026. Our annual funding from the Arts Council during the previous NPO funding period (2018 – 2022) was £1.6million per year. Once we learn more about Arts Council’s expectations we will begin the process of determining what our Tour and Learning & Engagement activity in 2023 and beyond will look like.

We may need to do things differently. What will not change is our commitment to remaining a year-round organisation and to delivering our core purpose of enriching the lives of as many people as possible through opera.

We recognise that difficult decisions have had to be taken. We’re confident in our ability to respond to these circumstances with creativity and innovation – hallmarks of Glyndebourne, as evidenced throughout our eight-decade history.

Thank you to our staff, artists and audience for their ongoing support and shared passion for opening up opera to all.
