Summer Holiday Workshops

If you are aged between 9 and 19 and love singing, drama, movement and performance, join us for fun, creative workshops this summer.

Development day

Saturday 25 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm at The Birley Centre, Eastbourne
GYO2 (age 14 – 19)
In this small group session led by Mary King and a team of professionals, you will receive targeted individual feedback and input on how to build your toolkit as a young singer preparing for further training. There will also be a Q&A for parents on supporting their young singer.
This targeted session is aimed at any GYO2 members who are considering singing as a career – you will be asked to bring two songs that you know well, with sheet music, to work on during the session.

We are pleased to announce the latest free workshops for Glyndebourne Youth Opera this summer. These workshops are open to both new and existing members of GYO and are a fantastic opportunity to get involved.

Boys Singing

Monday 27 – Wednesday 29 July, 9.30am – 12.30pm at The Charmandean Centre, Worthing
GYO1 (age 9 – 13)
In these sessions for unchanged treble voices explore the fundamentals of nurturing and developing the voice. Led by vocal specialist and music director Travis Baker and Alex Jemison.

Monday 27 – Wednesday 29 July, 2.00pm – 5.00pm at The Charmandean Centre, Worthing
GYO2 (age 14 – 19)
In these sessions for for changing and settled voices, explore the fundamentals of nurturing and developing the voice. Led by vocal specialist and music director Travis Baker and Alex Jemison

Fundamentals of Singing

Thursday 30 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm at The Performing Arts Centre, East Sussex College, Lewes
GYO2 (age 14 – 19)
Discover how to sing healthily, engage the whole body and develop strategies on practice and choice of repertoire in this workshop led by Vocal Talent Consultant Mary King and Vocal Specialist Travis Baker.

Musicianship

Friday 31 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm at The Performing Arts Centre, East Sussex College, Lewes
GYO1 (age 9 – 13)
Explore the language of music with focus on musical notation, pitch and rhythm, how to interpret music and listening skills in this workshop led by Vocal Talent Consultant Mary King and Vocal Specialist Travis Baker.

Acting & Stagecraft

Tuesday 4 August, 10.00am – 4.00pm at Brighton Youth Centre
GYO1 (age 9 – 13)
In this workshop led by by Movement Director Scott Howlands and Music Director Panaretos Kyriatzidis, work as part of an ensemble focusing on connecting the voice and body whilst performing operatic repertoire.

Movement & Choreography

Wednesday 5 August, 10.00am – 4.00pm at Brighton Youth Centre
GYO1 (age 9 – 13)
In this workshop led by by Movement Director Scott Howlands and Music Director Panaretos Kyriatzidis, discover how to maintain vocal performance under direction alongside learning choreography.

Who are they for?

These workshops are for young people aged 9-19 years old in Sussex who are interested in singing and performing. You don’t need to have any prior singing experience to join in, just be curious to find out more about music, movement and performing!

What does it cost?

All sessions are free.

Applications for the summer workshops are now open and will close on Monday 29 June at 12.00pm (midday). Any remaining spaces will be allocated on a rolling basis following this date.
