Arthur Wise’s legacy supports the Opera Cup

A substantial gift from Arthur Wise helped us to stage this year's Opera Cup.

We want to say a huge thank you to Arthur Wise.

Arthur and his partner John Sandford became Glyndebourne Members in the mid-1990s.

Having enjoyed many years of opera here, they particularly valued Glyndebourne’s investment in young, up-and-coming talent as part of the Tour, and in 2006 they decided to leave Glyndebourne a gift in their wills to support emerging singers.

Arthur sadly passed away in 2016 and left a substantial gift to Glyndebourne to support emerging singers, which has helped us to stage the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup.

Arthur and John also became members of the John Christie Society (JCS), our living legacy society, and enjoyed getting to know fellow JCS members at our special thank you events during our Tour each year, and we thank John for his continued support.
