Damiano Michieletto will make his directing debut with the first production of Káťa Kabanová at the Festival in nearly 20 years.
As Anna Karenina or Emma Bovary are to literature, so Káťa Kabanová is to opera. The heroine of Janáček’s 1921 opera is a devastating portrait of passion crushed and innocence tainted, by a cruel and hypocritical society – musical theatre at its most violent, exquisite and immediate.
This production will be directed by Glyndebourne’s Music Director, Robin Ticciati. The cast includes: Kateřina Knĕžíková as Káťa Kabanová, Aigul Akhmetshina as Varvara, Katarina Dalayman as Kabanicha, Nicky Spence as Tichon, Alexander Vassiliev as Dikoj, David Butt Philip as Boris and as Thomas Atkins as Vána Kudrjaš
