Support Dialogues des Carmélites
Be part of the dedicated group of supporters who bring Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites to the Glyndebourne stage for the first time
Glyndebourne Festival 2020 will see our first ever production of Dialogues des Carmélites directed by Barrie Kosky. Kosky’s last production for Glyndebourne was his blazingly original and visually spectacular staging of Handel’s Saul, which premiered in 2015 and was revived in 2018.
Dialogues des Carmélites tells a fictionalised story of the Martyrs of Compiègne, Carmelite nuns who, in the closing days of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution, were guillotined in Paris for refusing to renounce their vocation. Poulenc wrote the music and libretto in 1956, his second opera. Glyndebourne favourite Danielle de Niese is confirmed to play the role of Blanche.
‘Opera needs more institutions like Glyndebourne who actively support the art form in a dynamic, modern and relevant way’
