Coaching a chorister

Celebrated vocal coach and Glyndebourne Vocal Talent Consultant Mary King leads a coaching session with two singers, inviting you behind the scenes of the technical, physical and intellectual process of building a world-class opera singer.

 

Then choose one of the following:

Singing Workshop

Your chance to sing from the Festival 2026 repertoire under the expert guidance of Andrew Davies. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve in this fun session which suits all levels of singing experience – ability to read music not required.

 

 

Talk: Birth of Opera – L’Orfeo

Opera critic and Glyndebourne Opera Specialist Alexandra Coghlan explores the birth of opera: the voices, spaces, philosophies and politics of a genre that took the instinctive human urge to sing and refined it into the complex, compelling art we know today.

 

Afternoon (2.00pm - 4.15pm)

Choose one of the following options to begin your afternoon:

Talk: The Life of an opera singer

What does the life – and career – of an opera singer look like in 2025? What are the challenges they face? How do you go from student to star, and what do companies and casting directors look for? Singers and industry experts come together to discuss the highs and lows of a life in opera.

Singing Workshop

Your chance to sing from the Festival 2026 repertoire under the expert guidance of Andrew Davies. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve in this fun session which suits all levels of singing experience – ability to read music not required.

 

Recital

A day focused on the operatic voice – its development, training and evolution – ends with a recital: a celebration of singing at its most polished.

 

Full Day

If you want to enjoy the full day, with sessions in the morning and the afternoon, you will be able to do so within the booking journey.  There will also be the option to book lunch, or you are welcome to bring an autumn picnic to enjoy in our heated marquee.
