Education Awards

Two awards for gifted young singers who have taken part in education projects with Glyndebourne

2018 saw the return of our two biennial awards, the Gus Christie Award and the Bill Weston Young Singers Award.

The Gus Christie Award

This award is aimed at supporting a young classical singer who has shown exceptional promise through their work at Glyndebourne. The award winner needs to show a high level of commitment to singing as well as an aspiration to pursue singing as a career. This award is only open to individuals who are over the age of 16. A shortlist is created through nominations made by the creative team of eligible education projects, and those shortlisted will be contacted and asked to complete a personal statement form before the winners are chosen by an expert jury.

The Bill Weston Young Singers Award

This award is aimed at supporting a Glyndebourne education participant who has shown exceptional potential and would benefit greatly from financial support in order to help develop their musical progression. This award is subject to an application process including teacher references and a financial declaration.

Who is on the Jury?

On the jury panels for both awards will be several representatives from Glyndebourne including Gus Christie (Executive Chairman), Steven Naylor (Director of Artistic Administration) and Mary King (Vocal Talent Consultant) in addition to representatives from local and national musical organisations.

Previous Award Winners

Rising stars Olivia Moss and Emilie Parry-Williams are alumni of Glyndebourne Academy 2017 and were recognised this year with two Glyndebourne awards for young singers; the Gus Christie Award which aims to support a young classical singer who has shown exceptional promise through their work at Glyndebourne. And the Bill Weston Award which supports a Glyndebourne education participant who has shown exceptional potential and would benefit greatly from financial support in order to help develop their musical progression.
