Glyndebourne has received four nominations in the 2016/17 WhatsOnStage Opera Poll, it’s been announced.
The shortlist for the WhatsOnStage Opera Poll is chosen by the website’s reviews team to reflect the best opera events from the past year.
Glyndebourne productions and performers are in the running in the following categories:
- Best Opera Revival – A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Festival 2016) and The Cunning Little Vixen (Festival 2016)
- Breakthrough Artist in UK Opera – Björn Bürger (Festival 2016) and Taylor Stayton (Festival 2016)
German baritone Björn Bürger made his UK opera debut in the role of Figaro in the Glyndebourne Festival 2016 production of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, starring alongside American tenor Taylor Stayton in the role of Count Almaviva. Together they created a double act that WhatsOnStage described as ‘the answer to all your summertime needs.’
You can see their acclaimed performances on BBC Four later this month – a live recording of Il barbiere di Siviglia is aired on the channel at 8.00pm on Sunday 18 December.
Immediately before the broadcast catch a behind-the-scenes documentary presented by another of the opera’s stars, Danielle de Niese.
The winners of the WhatsOnStage Opera Poll will be decided by the public.
Voting closes at 11:59pm on 31 December 2016. The results will be announced on 4 January 2017.
