Tour 2015: Introducing… Benjamin Bliss

Posted On by

A recent graduate of the Lindeman Young Artist programme at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Benjamin Bliss makes his European and Glyndebourne debut at Belmonte in the 2015 Glyndebourne Tour production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

Name: Benjamin Bliss
Voice type: Tenor
Nationality: American

Career to date:
Born in Kansas, he studied at Chapman University in California where he majored in Film Production and minored in Voice. He has participated in young artist programmes with LA Opera and the Met and is the recipient of numerous top awards including First Prize in the 2014 Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition, Top Prize in the 2014 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition and second place in the 2015 Francisco Viñas International Competition in Barcelona.

He says: In a recent interview with Opera News, Ben described Mozart as:

“…the supreme puzzle master. Everything he writes, no matter how sensual the melody, is underpinned and supported by this incredible musical structure that the singer has to observe. That structure is in everything he gives you to sing, which is one of the reasons I love Mozart so much.”

What the critics say:

“Ben Bliss has a bright future ahead of him with his honeyed, mellifluous tone and an assured technique. … I saw all the promise and depth in this fine artist.”
