This autumn Glyndebourne will offer subsidised tickets to schools across England to attend full-length, fully-staged opera as part of the 2015 Glyndebourne Tour.
Glyndebourne Performances for Schools offer priority booking and reduced price tickets to schools to take their students to see an opera, often for the first time.
Now in its ninth year, Glyndebourne Performances for Schools will present Don Pasquale by Donizetti in Canterbury, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Plymouth and at Glyndebourne.
In addition, Glyndebourne will host a Performance for Schools of the Mozart classic, Die Entführung aus dem Serail at home only.
Lucy Lowe, Head of Education at Glyndebourne, said: “Opera is the only art form that has it all: music, movement, drama and design, making it a brilliant source of inspiration and learning for those studying performing arts, design and technology. The themes of the operas and experience of going to the theatre can also be the starting point for projects reaching across the curriculum. Since 2006, we’ve welcomed over 20,000 students to Glyndebourne Performances for Schools and we look forward to adding to that number this autumn.”
The experience has been tailored with students in mind with an on-stage introduction to prepare students for what to expect and things to look out for in the performance. This is complemented by a specially commissioned Performances for Schools printed programme, free for each student to take home.
The 2015 Performances for Schools are suitable for all students from Year 4 upwards. Tickets can be purchased directly from the participating Glyndebourne Tour 2015 venues.
