The Glyndebourne label recording of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg has been shortlisted in the 2015 BBC Music Magazine awards, it has been announced.
The recording, which stars Gerald Finley as Hans Sachs, is one of three in the running to win the Opera category at the tenth annual awards. It has previously been nominated in the Best Opera Recording of the 2014 Gramophone Awards.
The BBC Music Magazine Awards shortlist represents the very best of more than 1,200 recordings reviewed by the publication in 2014 and features leading names from the international classical music world
BBC Music Magazine’s editor Oliver Condy said: “This year’s nominations contain an extraordinary level of imagination, richness and diversity. Behind each and every one is a dedicated and hard-working team of musicians and recording engineers who have produced something akin to musical alchemy. Readers will have a tricky task ahead in voting for the best recordings as they’re all worthy winners in my eyes.”
Voting for seven categories, including Opera, opened today on the BBC Music Magazine website where audio excerpts from each of the nominated recordings are available to help voters choose their favourites. In addition to the voted awards, there are five Jury Awards.
The winners of the BBC Music Magazine Awards will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony held on 7 April 2015 at Kings Place, London.
