Our 80th anniversary has been a rollercoaster year, marked by the sad loss of my dear father, whose life spanned that of the Festival here - his forty plus years as Chairman took Glyndebourne onto another level. When I took over in 2000, six years after the new theatre was built, the organisation was in a truly robust financial and artistic position. So this Festival has been particularly poignant and I would like to share with you an extract from the first act of Rosenkavalier, which we were all listening to as a family in my dad’s last hours, featuring Kate Royal, Tara Erraught and Robin Ticciati conducting his first opera as Glyndebourne’s new Music Director.
Thank you for your encouragement and support that has sustained Glyndebourne over the last 80 years. With warm wishes for the Festive season, here’s to 2015 and beyond.
