Glyndebourne is competing to be crowned the first ever winner of the Most Welcoming Theatre Award in association with Classic FM. The award is part of the My Theatre Matters! campaign, which is run by Equity, Theatrical Management Association and The Stage, and seeks to galvanise public support for regional theatres following cuts in local government funding during 2013.
Over 225 professional theatres around the UK are taking part and the winner will be decided by a public vote open from 12 – 30 September 2013 on the Classic FM website.

Glyndebourne welcomes over 150,000 audience members to its performances every year along with the hundreds of staff, artists and performers who collaborate to create world-class productions. Research undertaken in 2006 estimated that Glyndebourne generates £16million annually for the local economy and its education department engages with schools and youth organisations to ensure that the venue is active in the local community. All of these groups are invited to vote to demonstrate how much they value and enjoy Glyndebourne.
Voting for the award closes at midnight on 30 September and the winner will be announced at the UK Theatre Awards ceremony on Sunday 20 October.
