Sarah Hopwood is the Managing Director of Glyndebourne.
Sarah has played a major role in the company’s dramatic growth over the past two decades. She spearheaded the initiative for Glyndebourne to take control of its own destiny by investing in its extensive intellectual property, driving a significant increase in audience reach through cinema broadcast and online streaming of productions.
Sarah studied Economics and Accounting at Bristol University. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now PwC), and then pursued her career with United News and Media, now UBM, both in the Far East and London as Group Financial Controller.
Sarah’s lifelong love of music was inspired in part by her father’s performances with the Wilmslow Opera Group, with whom she sang in the chorus of Boris Godunov and Carmen as a teenager. She played both the guitar and viola from a young age with little talent, but relished the opportunity this provided to play with other more talented musicians in orchestras.
