Glyndebourne will present a semi-staged version of its new production of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the 2015 BBC Proms, it was announced today.
Die Entführung aus dem Serail will be performed at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday 14 August and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. The production is directed by David McVicar and conducted by Glyndebourne’s Music Director Robin Ticciati, with an international cast led by British soprano Sally Matthews and Lithuanian tenor Edgaras Montvidas. It opens at the 2015 Glyndebourne Festival on Saturday 13 June.
As the world’s biggest classical music festival, the BBC Proms, which unveiled its 2015 line-up today, offers eight weeks of world-class music-making from a vast array of leading orchestras, conductors and soloists from the UK and around the world. Across more than 90 concerts – and a similar number of free events designed to extend and further enrich the audience’s Proms experience – the festival aims to offer a summer of music that allows for the most diverse and exciting musical journeys.
Glyndebourne’s relationship with the BBC Proms dates back to 1961 when it performed Mozart’s Don Giovanni in full, becoming the first company ever to give a complete opera performance at the Proms.
In addition to its Proms appearance, audiences will have a further opportunity to see Die Entführung aus dem Serail when it is broadcast live in cinemas and online on Sunday 19 July. From October, the production will tour to audiences across the country as part of the 2015 Glyndebourne Tour.
