It was with great sadness that Glyndebourne has learnt of the death of conductor Yakov Kreizberg at the age of just 51. He died peacefully, after a long illness, at his home in Monte Carlo, surrounded by his wife and two sons.
Yakov Kreizberg was one of the most exciting conductors of his generation and at the time of his death, he was the Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Netherlands Philharmonic and Netherlands Chamber Orchestras and Music as well as Artistic Director of L’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.
Glyndebourne audiences will remember that Yakov Kreizberg conducted three productions for Glyndebourne; in 1992 Nicholaus Lehnhoff’s production of Jenůfa, in 1995 Deborah Warner’s production of Don Giovanni and in 1998 Nicholaus Lehnhoff’s production of Káťa Kabanová .
Glyndebourne remembers him with great affection and sends sincere condolences to his family.
