Our resident orchestras and chorus
Glyndebourne is privileged to have two world-class resident orchestras, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, as well as the Glyndebourne Chorus, one of the pre-eminent choruses in international opera.
Recognised as one of the finest orchestras on the international stage, the London Philharmonic Orchestra has been the resident symphony orchestra for Glyndebourne Festival since 1964.
Just over two decades ago, a group of inquisitive London musicians took a long hard look at that curious institution we call the orchestra, and decided to start again from scratch. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment was born.
The highly acclaimed Glyndebourne Tour Orchestra was formed in 1990 and is resident at Glyndebourne between September and October each year before going out on the Tour.
Glyndebourne takes pride, and justifiably so, in the performances of the Glyndebourne Chorus, whose quality and commitment makes it one of the pre-eminent choruses in international opera.
Since 2005 Glyndebourne has been able to increase its investment in developing young talent with the inauguration of the Jerwood Chorus Development Scheme supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
