Work Experience

We run a comprehensive programme of work experience placements and applicants from all backgrounds with varying levels of practical experience will be considered

Glyndebourne runs a range of work experience placements to give those starting out on their careers hands-on involvement in the arts.

Applicants from all backgrounds with varying levels of practical experience will be considered.

‘I found the week very enjoyable and also interesting as I was able to explore the different departments that create Glyndebourne and learn about the skills needed for all of them.’

— Work experience participant

UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE CURRENT COVID-19 SITUATION, WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY IN A POSITION TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FOR 2021.
HOWEVER, WE ARE HOPEFUL PLACEMENTS MAY BE ABLE TO RESUME IN THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR AND FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE POSTED LATER IN THE YEAR.
Administrative work experience

We provide ten week-long placements for administrative work experience at Glyndebourne. This will offer local young people (age 16+ and still at school, college or university and living locally within 25 miles of Glyndebourne), the invaluable opportunity to see an internationally renowned opera company at work. Over the course of the week, you will have the opportunity to experience and work in a variety of different departments, learn about the many and varied jobs people do at Glyndebourne and (when possible) watch a rehearsal or performance. You may also be able to work additional hours supporting a Glyndebourne education project.

Lighting

Our lighting & AV team offers work experience placements of up to two-weeks between May and August. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our lighting & AV team for both rehearsals and productions to gain a really good insight into this area of work. We’re looking for applicants who are aged 18+ and interested in pursuing a career in lighting and or AV. It is not essential but would be beneficial for you to work evenings and weekends.

Make-up

Our make-up team offers work experience in theatre make-up for placements for students who are in their third year (or have completed) a relevant degree, National Higher Diploma or relevant diploma courses leading to direct entry into the industry. Placements will run between late April and October.
If you join us you will have the opportunity to work with an experienced team and be exposed to a variety of areas including make up for stage screen special effects and prosthetics.

Props

The Props & Scenic Workshop only work with selected higher education institutions to offer work experience to those who are studying a relevant degree course.

Costume department

It is with regret that the costume department is unable to offer any work experience placements in 2019/2020 but we hope to do so in the future. Our placements offer experience in making for a variety of productions.

Important information

Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from those under 18 for our technical schemes and under 16’s for our administrative scheme.

Due to the high demand for places not all applications will be successful.

We are happy to meet any access needs that we reasonably can; this may be in partnership with any existing arrangements in place (i.e. through school/college).
