    Our Study Day will offer a glimpse into the world behind Pelléas et Mélisande and give you an in-depth insight into the opera.

    Moderator Warwick Thompson will lead you through a day of expert talks, panel discussions and musical previews with members of the production including Christina Gansch (Mélisande), Alexander Vassiliev (Golaud cover role) and repetiteur Anthony Legge.

    The speakers include Colin Jones CBE, Professor of History at Queen Mary University of London who specialises in the history of France. He is joined by musicologist Richard Langham Smith who has published and lectured extensively on French opera with a particular interest in Debussy. He is co-author of the Cambridge Opera Handbook to Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande and has written many articles on the opera.
