What makes Verdi’s La traviata one of the most popular and powerful operas of all time? Discover the answer as Glyndebourne invites you behind the scenes of this heart-breaking musical love-story in La traviata: Behind the Curtain, presented by Chris Addison.

Following on from the success of Don Giovanni: Behind the Curtain in 2016, Glyndebourne returns with a new operatic event that will explore just some of the secrets of this uniquely rich art-form. Watch as La traviata is taken apart and put back together again, and see just how Verdi turns the screw on this emotionally-charged story in his memorable, tune-filled music.

Whether you are an opera regular or completely new to the art-form, La traviata: Behind the Curtain promises to enrich your experience, bringing you closer than ever to this extraordinary piece.

La traviata: Behind the Curtain will be presented by actor and comedian Chris Addison, a passionate opera fan. ‘I’m frankly a little bit over-excited to be working with Glyndebourne again and to get to have a tinker under the hood of Big Joe Verdi’s tragic masterpiece La traviata’ says Chris. ‘We’re going to see how it’s put together, how it works, why it works, which bits go where and why, and hopefully unlock this big-tuned, bouncy and most beloved of operas for newbies and superfans alike. Drinking songs! Star-crossed lovers! Lingering death by consumption! Just like an evening round mine, in fact. Only with the addition of music that will set up camp in your head and refuse to leave.’
