Handel’s Saul: Taking on the Bible on Thursday 20 August
Join Prospect and some of the UK’s brightest minds at Glyndebourne this summer as a group of leading broadcasters, novelists and cultural commentators debate the history and themes of Festival 2015’s most sought-after productions.
On July 16, we take a detailed look at David McVicar’s new production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail:/tickets-and-whats-on/events/2015/die-entfuhrung-aus-dem-serail/, the first at Glyndebourne for 20 years. Panellists include Mona Siddiqui (Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh), Sameer Rahim (Arts Editor, Prospect and event chair), novelist and opera critic Philip Hensher and professor of Early Modern Studies Matthew Dimmock. Kamila Shamsie will also join the panel, she is a Pakistani-British novelist whose latest work, A God in Every Stone, has been nominated for the 2015 Bailey’s Prize.
This event takes a detailed look at putting the East on stage.
