Youth Opera – age 14-19

Since Autumn 2023 we have been meeting fortnightly for free creative sessions – exploring storytelling and activism through music.
Who are they for?

These workshops are for young people aged 14 to 19 in Sussex who are interested in singing and performing. We have now formed two companies, meeting regularly in Worthing and Eastbourne.

What are we doing?

At each session we are singing, acting, moving, sharing and creating with directors, singers, visual artists and more. Over 6 months we will be learning how to use the arts to make a real difference in the local area and beyond. The groups are currently devising their own creative projects led by our team of professional artists.

We are using opera as a key to unlock how different art forms can be used to talk about the changes the group want to see in the world today and we are supporting the group in using creativity to take real action that leaves a lasting legacy.

When and where?

The workshops started in September 2023 in Eastbourne and Worthing, we will continue meeting fortnightly until April 2024, excluding half-term and Christmas break dates.

What does it cost?

All sessions are FREE, with dinner provided and funding for travel available for those who need it. Both venues are close to train and bus links.

This project is a collaboration with The Human Hive, a social enterprise that trains people from all over the world to become change makers.

Your chance to perform on the Glyndebourne stage

In summer 2024 we will begin recruiting for a brand new production written for our Glyndebourne Youth Opera, premiering in spring 2025. The workshops above will provide you with tools, skills and confidence for the audition process if you choose to take part.

This opportunity is open to all young people aged 14 to 19 living within 25 miles of Glyndebourne. If you are 13 but will turn 14 by June 2024, you are welcome to join.

You can also become a Glyndebourne Youth Opera member, membership is free and you can sign up here.

We promote equality, diversity and inclusion and actively encourage applications from those whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in the world of opera.

If you would like to be notified of other upcoming workshops, please sign up for our Glyndebourne Youth Opera mailing list below. If you have any queries about workshops, please do not hesitate to contact us at takepart@glyndebourne.com.
