Free Youth Opera workshops

Glyndebourne Youth Opera provides local young people with engaging opera workshops open to all.

If you are aged between 9 and 19 and love singing, drama, movement and performance you are invited to join us for fun, creative workshops.

May workshops

Join us on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May for two days of free workshops at Glyndebourne. These workshops are open to both new and existing members of GYO and present an incredible opportunity to be part of something truly special.

During these workshops, you will have the unique chance to explore a new youth opera currently being written by the composer Lucy Armstrong and librettist Olivia Bell. Over the course of two days, you will play an active role in shaping the creation of the opera by immersing yourselves in movement, music, and drama under the guidance of GYO music director Ashley Beauchamp and director Fiona Dunn. This is an invaluable experience for any young person with a passion for opera and a desire to contribute to the creative process.

Your chance to perform on the Glyndebourne stage

The workshops above could be your first step on a journey to Glyndebourne’s main stage! Later this year, we will be holding auditions for young people to be part of some upcoming performances at Glyndebourne.

Further details of auditions will be announced via email to the Glyndebourne Youth Opera mailing list – to be eligible to audition, you must have attended at least one GYO workshop.

ELIGIBILITY

These opportunities are open to all young people aged 9 to 19 living within 25 miles of Glyndebourne. You can also become a Glyndebourne Youth Opera member, membership is free and you can sign up here.

We promote equality, diversity and inclusion and actively encourage applications from those whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented in the world of opera.

Spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to Glyndebourne Youth Opera members who have never attended a workshop before.
