Give American singers the opportunity to perform at Glyndebourne
This was also the year Glyndebourne brought its acclaimed production of Britten’s Billy Budd to The Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. Support through this fund allows us to offer American singers the opportunity to benefit from unique long rehearsal periods and be showcased at the Glyndebourne International Summer Festival.
Glyndebourne has a strong tradition of showcasing American singers, the first in a long line starting in the 1930s with Alexander Kipnis in 1936, Francesco Valentino in 1938 and Risë Stevens in 1939; continuing through the decades to the present day with such leading opera singers as George Landon in the 1950s, Renee Fleming, Barbara Bonney, Lorraine Hunt (Lieberson) and David Daniels in the 1990s and Danielle de Niese in the 2000s.
When you sponsor one of our upcoming singers with a gift of $25,000 or more you will help make it possible for this tradition to continue. Some of the leading American singers we have showcased at Glyndebourne include:
John Chest (Pelléas, Pelléas et Mélisande)
Kate Lindsey (Octavian, Der Rosenkavalier)
Joelle Harvey (Cleopatra, Giulio Cesare)
Michael Sumuel (Sharpless, Madama Butterfly)
Elizabeth DeShong (Suzuki, Madama Butterfly)
Stephanie Lauricella (Annina, Der Rosenkavalier)
John Moore (Achilla, Giulio Cesare)
Kangmin Justin Kim (Nireno, Giulio Cesare)
Donnie Ray Albert (The Old Doctor, Pelléas et Mélisande)
American Artists available for support in Festival 2020
- Alcina – Avery Amereua (Bradamante)
- Die Entführung aus dem Serail – Lisette Oropesa (Konstanze)
- The Rake’s Progress – Ben Bliss (Tom Rakewell)
Just as important is helping to support the funds overall costs; this is available to those who make a gift of $10,000 or higher. All gifts made at this level or higher to The Glyndebourne American Artists Fund will be recognised as Old Green Room Society.
