We have a Permanent vacancy for a props & Scenic Workshop Supervisor to join our production workshop.

We are looking for an experienced, organised, creative individual to supervise our team of craftspeople to produce stage props, scenic elements and other company projects, to an exceptionally high standard.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the workflow through the workshop from various input streams. This will include monitoring  the level of fixed term and freelance staff to meet workloads and deadlines. 
  • You will supervise the workshop team on a day to day basis as well as completing 1-2-1 reviews, highlighting training needs and upskilling and training the team.
  • Responsible for interpreting scale drawings, models and other reference material.
  • Responsible for the allocation of work and development of staff.
  • Responsible for quality control, in conjunction with HoD.
  • Required to work with fabrics, to be able to upholster and create soft props
  • Required to deputise in the absence of the Head of Props.
  • Required understanding and application of health and safety practices including C.D.M., C.O.S.H.H and L.O.L.E.R. regulations.
  • Responsible for the day to day implementation and monitoring of health and safety policies throughout the department 
  • Required to have to have knowledge of and implement Risk Assessment practices and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for managing department budgets, where delegated by the HoD. Particularly; costing, monitoring spend and ensuring the department keeps within agreed budgets.
  • Responsible for sourcing and buying a wide range of props and materials.
  • Responsible for the creation and update of production & department archive materials.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of workshop equipment and implementing service programmes where appropriate.
  • Required to contribute to the up-keep & organisation of department stores
  • Required to contribute to the environmental ambitions of Glyndebourne. 
  • Required to deputise in the absence of the Head of Props & scenic Workshops
  • Responsible for liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure materials and components are available when required. 
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining appropriate stock levels. 
  • Required to have a knowledge of a wide range of key materials including but not limited to; timbers, metals, , paints, EPS, plastics, resins, multiple types of casting materials and fabrics, their applications and uses. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential 
  • Recognised project management training and or functional project management experience.
  • To be an imaginative individual, able to lead and work as part of a cohesive creative team of makers; bringing support to others and sharing knowledge.
  • Theatrical Art & Design course to Degree level or other Arts related degree qualification
  • Extensive departmental and logistical organisational experience.
  • IOSH H&S qualification
  • Extensive experience of working with key materials
  • Excellent functional knowledge of stage scenery and stage machinery.
  • Knowledge of the creative production process, design styles and history
  • Good computer skills in a range of software, including Microsoft Office, Google and Adobe
  • Computer aided drafting skills to a recognised industry standard
  • Extensive experience in a theatrical workshop or similar
  • Extensive experience working with key materials.
Desirable 
  • Theatrical Art & Design course to Degree level or other Arts related degree qualification
  • Knowledge of the ‘Theatre Green Book’.
  • Knowledge of design styles and period details. 
  • Full driving licence
  • Counterbalance forklift licence
  • MEWP licence

Hours of Work

The contractual hours of work are 39 per week, worked over 5 days however you will be required to work additional hours during busy periods to meet the demands of the role.

Salary and Benefits

We can offer a salary of up to £42,024 per annum dependant on experience. Salaries are reviewed annually on 1st January. 

We offer 28 days (5.6 weeks) holiday inclusive of bank holidays, increasing to 33 days (6.6 weeks) after five years service.
