Support Tristan und Isolde

Help us to re-light the Glyndebourne stage with Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s critically-acclaimed production of Tristan und Isolde.

When this production premiered in 2003 it was the fulfilment of the dearest ambition of our founder John Christie, who dreamed of staging Wagner at Glyndebourne. 2021 marks the production’s fourth revival at the Festival. Medieval-inspired costumes and evocative, watery lighting give the drama of Tristan und Isolde a mythic and historic feeling, but are framed by Roland Aeschlimann’s abstract, timeless set – a sort of ‘hollow vortex’, somewhere between womb or the centre of a whirlwind or wave.

This revival will be conducted by Glyndebourne’s Musical Director, Robin Ticciati. The cast includes Simon O’Neill as Tristan, Miina-Liisa Värelä as Isolde, Karen Cargill as Brangäne, Shenyang as Kurwenal, John Relyea as König Marke, Neal Cooper as Melot and Stuart Jackson as Hirt / Seeman.
