Glyndebourne Young Artists-in-Residence
Working with the University of Brighton, Glyndebourne provided a residency for two visual arts students. The successful applicants were encouraged to attend Festival rehearsals and explore the Glyndebourne estate with a view to using this source material as research towards their practice. They were provided with an outdoor studio located near the marquee to work in during the summer.
In 2014 we welcomed Claudia Dance-Wells and Sophie McKenna. They were third year painters in the Fine Art programme. As well as participating in the Festival, the artists also took part in two Glyndebourne education projects: GYO’s production of Tycho’s Dream and Raise Your Voice.
The advantage of art residencies such as this for the learning and research process is that it gives an artist the opportunity to inhabit and work in a fresh location and context. On such residencies inspiration can be conjured up by being dropped into a different physical environment which leads in turn to new ideas, social engagements and interventions.
In 2013 Hannah Robson and Alice Walter were our Artists-in-Residence.
In 2012 Clem Moyes and Jonathan Stevenson were our Artists-in-Residence.
