Special Needs Projects

We have worked on a number of projects with children and adults with learning difficulties, including work on performance and composition.

Natures Corridors for All, 2007

During 2006/07 Glyndebourne Education worked with Natures Corridors for All’s group of adults with learning disabilities from Lewes and their partners from France, who have visited Glyndebourne and created e-learning materials with the information and images that they gathered.

Abbey Hill Project, May 2004

A project in Abbey Hill School in Stoke on Trent, an MLD school with Performing Arts Status, to create and perform a piece of music theatre with original words and music by students with artists from Glyndebourne Education. A Composer, director and musician will work over three or four weeks, with year 8-10 pupils developing an’opera’on a local theme. Set making will take place in school with, we hope, input from a designer. Members of staff will support project sessions with follow up work and possible Inset time for artists and teachers. The performance will take place at a local venue.

Downs View Project, May 2004

An integration project with pupils from Downs View Special Needs School and pupils from COMART mainstream school, following projects with Downs View School in 2000 and 2002. The pupils worked together over a period of two weeks creating music with technology, drama, movement and design to develop group communication and creative skills in an integrated environment. This was a joint project between Glyndebourne and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment Education.

Belgrade Day Centre Project

A one-week residency with members of the Belgrade Day Centre for adults with learning difficulties, based in Portslade. A team of artists worked to develop and devise music, drama and movement with 15-20 adults from the centre, ending with a sharing performance.
