Thank You For Your Support
We are extremely grateful for the generous support provided by our Members and supporters. It is our financial independence that has helped us to shape our work and develop Glyndebourne’s strong tradition of innovation.
We gratefully acknowledge the support for Glyndebourne on Tour from Arts Council England, however the Festival itself receives no public subsidy and relies on box office income and the generosity of Members, sponsors and donors. This means that every subscription or donation that you make directly supports the future of Glyndebourne.
As an example of how your support helps the Festival, in 2005 each hour of Festival performance cost an average if £58,000 to stage. Of that, ticket sales contributed only 67%. Every ticket was subsidised to the tune of 33%, not by the taxpayer but by hundreds of generous supporters. Here are just a few examples of where the money goes:
Orchestral Costs Over £2m
Make-up £70,000
Lighting £40,000
New Piano £20,000
Props £17,000
Chorus and Understudies £1m
Costumes Almost £1m
Supertitles £65,000
Touring Opera £200,000 per week
Seeds for Garden £5,000
