Fresh from the success of his Festival debut, which won him plaudits as a remarkable and exciting emergent talent, Robin Ticciati will conduct a revival of Richard Jones’s production of Verdi’s Macbeth, following its sell-out run at the 2007 Festival.
Glyndebourne is delighted to present a new production of Donizetti’s romantic comedy L’elisir d’amore, created especially for the 2007 Tour by director Annabel Arden, and conducted by the young Italian, Enrique Mazzola, making his house debut.
Sir Peter Hall’s classic production of Albert Herring completes the programme, having enjoyed great acclaim when it toured five years ago, establishing it as a firm favourite within the Glyndebourne repertoire.
In 2006 over 48,000 people attended Glyndebourne on Tour performances and the GOT box office was on target with an average of 81% capacity. We were delighted to return to Sadler’s Wells for the first time since 1993 and are very pleased to be performing there again this year.
The Tour is made possible through the continued generosity of Arts Council England, and this year is further sponsored by Lexus. After a three week run at Glyndebourne (9th - 27th October), the Tour will travel to Woking (30th October - 3rd November), Milton Keynes (6th - 10th November), Norwich (13th - 17th November), Plymouth (20th - 24th November), Stoke-on-Trent (20th November - 1st December) and Sadler’s Wells (4th - 8th December).
Glyndebourne on Tour 2007 will also revive its hugely successful initiative of schools’ matinees, offering access to students of various age-groups to three performances at Glyndebourne in October.

GAETANO DONIZETTI
L’elisir d’amore
Set amongst the olive groves of Southern Italy, this charming comedy of love rivalry and grand passion will be created especially for the 2007 Tour by Annabel Arden. Donizetti’s sparkling orchestral writing will be brought to life by the young Italian conductor, Enrique Mazzola, in his Glyndebourne debut. Arden, who directed The Miserly Knight and Gianni Schicchi for the 2004 Glyndebourne Festival, will work with a cast including Adriana Kucerova, who is making her British stage debut, and Peter Auty, who garnered much praise for his emotive Macduff in Macbeth at this year’s Festival.

Macbeth
While it is 60 years since Glyndebourne last toured Macbeth, when the 1947 production opened the first Edinburgh Festival, the opera has remained a central work in Glyndebourne’s history since it was given its first professional British performance in 1938. This production, which enjoyed a sell-out run at the 2007 Festival, is directed by Richard Jones and designed by Olivier award-winner Ultz. Robin Ticciati, Music Director of Glyndebourne on Tour, conducts a fine cast, including Stephen Gadd and Svetlana Sozdateleva as the central couple of the drama, both of whom featured in the 2007 Festival production.

BENJAMIN BRITTEN
Albert Herring
This popular production was first created by Peter Hall in 1985 and since then has become something of a Glyndebourne classic, now enjoying its sixth revival. Given its premiere at Glyndebourne in 1947 with Britten as conductor, this festive opera is one of the composer’s most admired works, offering a witty concoction of mockery and tenderness. The production will be conducted by Rory Macdonald, Assistant Conductor of the Hallé Orchestra.

Glyndebourne Education oversees a multifarious programme of events that is fully integrated with the Tour programme, and comprehensively supports the operas in the repertoire. There is a broad spectrum of opportunities for involvement, which offer something for all age-groups, including primary, secondary and university level students, and universal events for audience members.
FOR SCHOOLS
Opera Experience Workshops
Opera Experience workshops are led by a team of artists from Glyndebourne and are designed to introduce secondary school students to opera through a range of engaging workshop activities, run in conjunction with attendance at a Glyndebourne on Tour performance. Using a variety of practical activities to approach the music, themes, characters, social issues, historical background and production, the sessions involve physical and vocal warm-ups, drama work, musical listening exercises, singing and discussion. Students also have the opportunity to hear singers from the company.
For four years, Glyndebourne Education has also led highly successful workshops in primary schools on the Glyndebourne Tour, involving active participation from children in an opera with two professional singers and the fundamentals of set, costume, story and music. In 2007, these ‘mini’ performances will continue, with a new work based on Macbeth, written by James Redwood.
The Opera Experience workshops are sponsored by the Peter Moores Foundation.
Schools' Matinees
The schools’ matinees are an exciting opportunity to introduce students to opera, or enhance an already established interest in opera, by providing students their own particular chance to watch a live performance at Glyndebourne.
L’elisir d’amore Tuesday 16th October, 4pm
Albert Herring Wednesday 17th October, 4pm
Macbeth Thursday 18th October, 4pm
The Schools’ Matinees are sponsored by the Clore Duffield Foundation.
Support Programmes
Both of these projects are reinforced by Teachers’ Packs and INSET days, designed to support the performances and aid teachers in the preparation of their students. A Teachers’ Pack of information on each opera will be downloadable from the Glyndebourne website, from 3rd September 2007 and Glyndebourne Education will be offering a day-long teachers’ workshop to demonstrate practical and creative ways of introducing students to L’elisir d’amore and Albert Herring on Monday 10th September, 10am-5pm.
