In 1986 a group of the finest exponents of period instruments in the UK pooled their talents and expertise to found their own self-governing orchestra: the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE).
The OAE is in its thirteenth season as Associate of the Royal Festival Hall, and is also Associate Orchestra at Glyndebourne. The OAE has toured many countries, including South America, the United States and South East Asia. The Orchestra’s discography covers over fifty recordings in music from Purcell to Verdi.
The OAE offers a unique apprenticeship scheme, the Jerwood / OAE Experience for Young Players, and has an acclaimed education and outreach programme founded in 1994. Jupiter Unit Trust Managers have been the orchestra's Principal Sponsor since the 2001/02 season.
