Born in Sweden, he graduated from the Gothenburg Music Conservatory in 1990.

Early roles include Mathieu/Andrea Chénier, Noye/Noye’s Fludde, Ford/Falstaff, Crown/Porgy and Bess, Reinmar/Tannhäuser. He became a principal at Gothenburg in 2002 where he sang Hunding/Die Walküre, Hagen/Götterdämmerung, King Marke/Tristan und Isolde, Gurnemanz/Parsifal, Ferrando/Il trovatore, Ramfis/Aida, Sparafucile/Rigoletto, Prince Gremin/Eugene Onegin, Don Basilio/Il barbiere di Siviglia, Padre Guardiano/La forza del destino, Pimen/Boris Godunov, Arkel/Pelléas et Mélisande, Animal tamer, Acrobat/Lulu. Other engagements include Hagen/Götterdämmerung (COC, Scottish Opera, Edinburgh Festival); Hunding (in concert under Nagano); Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte (Drottingholm); Sparafucile (Norwegian National Opera); Don Fernando/Fidelio, Herald/Alceste (Suffolk); concert performances of the first act of Die Walküre and King Marke’s monologue from Tristan und Isolde (Opera North).

Forthcoming engagements include Rocco/Fidelio, Daland/Die fliegender Holländer (COC); Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte (Gothenburg).
