The London Philharmonic Orchestra has long established a high reputation for its versatility and artistic excellence. These are evident from its performances in the concert hall and opera house, its many award-winning recordings, its trail-blazing international tours and its pioneering education work.
Founded in 1932 by Sir Thomas Beecham, the London Philharmonic Orchestra presents its main series of concerts at the South Bank in London. It also performs at venues around the UK and over the years has visited America, Europe, Japan, India, Hong Kong, China, Australia and South Africa. Since 2000 the Orchestra’s Principal Conductor has been Kurt Masur, following in the footsteps of conductors such as Boult, Pritchard, Haitink, Solti and Tennstedt.
Each summer, for over forty years, the London Philharmonic Orchestra has enjoyed a rewarding partnership with Glyndebourne Festival Opera as its resident symphony orchestra. This relationship was enhanced by the appointment in 2003 of Vladimir Jurowski as the Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor.
