Selected press quotes:

‘The great strength of this revival – directed with real intelligence and force by Daniel Dooner – is that it looks far beyond the primary motivations and actions of the opera’s principal characters and diligently explores the emotional, spiritual, and moral in-betweens.’
The Independent, 29 October, Edward Seckerson

‘Giselle Allen makes a tough and resourceful Jenufa, sung with expansive power, and Pavel Cernoch and Peter Wedd are the most persuasive Steva and Laca I have seen.’’
The Daily Telegraph, 27 October, Rupert Christiansen

It would be hard to exagerate the scale of achievement reached in this production. There are no weaknesses in any sphere, with many revelations as a consequence. It is an utterly compelling artistic experience, dealing with unchanging human nature while making light of every musical challenge. Most impressive and thank you GTO!

An excellent performance of a fine opera. I just cannot wait for more Janácek in both the Festival and the Tour. The Makropulos Case was one of the best and most moving evenings I have had at Glyndebourne.

I should add that the pre-performance talk was very good. Please invite me back. Enthusiastic and informative.

We came to the first night of Jenufa at Glyndebourne, and the atmosphere was incredible, it was a superb production, faultless, and the conducting of Robin Ticciati was just brilliant. It was one of the most exciting evenings I have experienced at Glyndebourne. We saw Cosi and Falstaff as well, which were both fantastic, but Jenufa was electrifying.

The performance of Jenufa was brilliant! The best opera we have seen for years.
Thank you for providing such a high standard of production. The singers and orchestra were first class. Congratulations.

The performance was superb. Superlatives come not easily to such wonderful singing and acting by the cast and the playing of the orchestra. My mother, Jean Barnes, sat there and said “this is special” and she has been going to Glyndebourne performances since 1961!

I think the audience knew this as well as I haven’t heard such applause to a performance in the many years in which I have been going to Glyndebourne.

A very special night to be at Glyndebourne!

Jenufa was incredible an amazing production outstanding performances from the singers /orchestra and Robin Ticiatti's conducting as well as from all the technical staff back stage / stage crew / lighting etc. An emotional and moving opera - certainly one of the best I've been privildeged to see. Thank-you.

Just thought I would say that I found the Jenufa fantastic. Was it the fact I have not seen it for a while or was it Robin's conducting? There were unbearable silences when the audience where you could feel the tension rippling around the auditorium.

Gillian Ram was great in Cosi - I didn't think the performance was quite as good as the very original production, but that's a long time ago!

What do I know anyway?

We thought it was a superb production, quite the best Jenufa we have seen. Brilliant performances by all but particular mention of Giselle Allen, Anne Mason and the conducting of Robin Ticciati. A really memorable evening!

A wonderful and sensitive performance of a remarkable opera.

This is for us the definitive production of a wonderful opera, and the GTO realised well all that is best about the production, without any weak links. Of course it is hard to match an earlier reincarnation with Silja and Roocroft which my wife and I still regard as the very best thing we have ever seen at Glyndebourne, but we enjoyed the present revival unreservedly. With "Tristan und Isolde" we put "Jenufa" as far and away the best things we have seen at Glyndebourne in 5 outings this year. Could there be a message here to directors? We approve very much of the arrangements for the GTO at Glyndebourne, which make it well worth the journey from Oxford, as opposed to having to go to soulless Milton Keynes in deep December. A. J. I have just returned from the theatre in Stoke on Trent and I was blown away. It was such a rich emotional experience delivered by a very strong cast and excellent staging. The lighting was fantastic and the orchestra exceptional. the pre performance talk really helped and was delivered with enthusiasm and professionalism as well as a great deal of background knowledge. I did not enjoy Falstaff anywhere near as much.

I thought the performance of JENUFA I attended recently was absolutely spellbinding and completely breath-taking. The staging is superb, all the singers magnificent and the conducer and orchestra out-of this-world wonderful.

This was my first experience of Glyndebourne Touring at Glyndebourne. The only disappointment was the catering arrangements, which were limited and rather chaotic, especially at the Long Bar. On the Sunday, when I returned for FALSTAFF, many people were saying how they would have enjoyed having Sunday lunch at Glyndebourne, whereas only afternoon tea was provided. I,too, think this would have been a good idea, and a money-spinner for you!

As usual we attended all three touring operas but were unprepared for such a cosmic experience as Jenufa provided. The orchestra, under Robin Ticciati was fantastic, but the performances of Giselle Allen and Anne Mason were world class – mesmeric and transporting. Having just seen Don Carlos at the ROH, I thought it would be some time before I saw its equal but, my word, Jenufa matched it. What a privilege! Thank you so much for giving a wider audience such fare. We do get to a couple of Festival Operas each year but would be lost without our Glyndebourne Touring week to illuminate the dark days of November in Stoke on Trent. Long may it continue.

Thank you so much for last week's Jenufa in Norwich. I have seen Jenufa before several times including this production at the old house at Glyndebourne but this performance was quite stunning. Wonderfully sung and played and the production is still probably the best.

I attended last night's performance of Jenufa in Norwich. It was wonderful. Something about this opera always brings out the best in performers. Anne Mason is immensely powerful and the production is holding up well (though the brick mill house could do with some touching up). I saw it new in the old Glyndebourne. My only quibble is the length of the first interval. I think it was longer than the first act and there was problem of getting the tension back. Twenty minutes would have been more than enough. I was sorry the opera well not better attended. If only people knew what a masterpiece Jenufa is.

Apologies if I have sent this to the wrong person, but I want to express my thanks for such a wonderful performance of Jenufa at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth. The whole production was excellent. The soloists, the whole company and the sets were just so good.

I travelled about 150 mile round trip and stayed overnight in Plymouth and it was worth every penny. During and after the performance I spoke to many people in the theatre and later at the guesthouse. Every single person was full of praise and admiration for the whole performance.

Thank you to Glyndeborne for giving us this opportunity in the south west to see such great works.

For many years now I have been organising my opera loving friends as a group to enjoy GOT's December visit to the Theatre Royal Plymouth. This year's performances were amongst the best, if not the best, we have had the privilege of seeing. Never have so many bravos, bravas and bravi been more deserved. Jenufa was nothing short of sensational. (We saw the original production at the Festival in 1992).

If you can let me know what is being performed in Plymouth, and when, next year it would be most helpful to me to ensure that my group keeps the dates free.

Please pass on to all concerned the gratitude of some very happy fans in South Devon.
