Born in Austria, he studied at the Musikhochschule in Vienna under the tutelage of Gerhard Kahry and Kurt Equiluz.
He made his GFO debut in 1999 singing Vašek/Bartered Bride, followed by roles as Reverend Horace Adams/Peter Grimes, Monostatos/Die Zauberflöte. He has also sung Goro/Madama Butterfly, Monostatos, Armed Man/Zauberflöte, Dr Blind/Die Fledermaus, First Jew/Salome, a role in the premiere of Phillipe Manoury’s K…(Opéra National de Paris); Goro (Theatre Olympics in Japan); Valzacchi/Der Rosenkavalier (La Monnaie); Dr Caius/Falstaff (Aix, Madrid, Champs-Elysées); Mime/Das Rheingold (Dresden); Mime/Siegfried (Toulouse, Madrid, La Fenice); Producer/Un re in ascolto (Frankfurt); Pedrillo/Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Festival Mozart in La Coruña, Madrid); Trimalchio/Satyricon (Nancy, Rome); Loge/Das Rheingold (Strasbourg, Lucerne Festival); the title role in Barbe-bleu (Bregenz Festival, Leipzig); Aegisth/Elektra (Strasbourg); Captain/Wozzek (Nancy, La Scala).
He has worked with conductors including Gatti, Jurowski, Conlon, Bychkov, Steinberg, Pappano and Mackerras. He has appeared widely in concert, at places such as Concertgebouw, Sao Paolo and Melbourne.
Future engagements include Die Zauberflöte, Mime/The Ring des Nibelungen (Opéra National de Paris); Valzacchi (Baden Baden); Pedrillo (Naples).
