Born in Germany, he studied at the Conservatory in Mannheim, the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and furthered his training with masterclasses in New York.

In 2004 he made his debut as Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte, after winning the Chamber Opera of Schloss Rheinsberg’s International Voice Competition for Young Singers. A year later he was chosen to represent Germany in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

Roles include Sancho Panza/Don Quichotte, Monk/Tea (Netherlands Opera, Tokyo); Caronte/Orfeo, Seneca/L’incoronazione di Poppea, Pistola/Falstaff, Superintendent Budd/Albert Herring (Darnstadt); Angelotti/Tosca (Berlin Staatsoper); Otto/Frühlingserwachen (La Monnaie); Dr Grenvil/La traviata (Nationaltheater Mannheim); Julian Pinelli/Die Gezeichneten (Netherlands Opera); First Apprentice/Wozzeck (Opéra National de Paris).

Future engagements include Salome (Netherlands Opera); Otto (Opéra National du Rhin); Montano/Otello (Concertgebouw Saturday matinee).
