Born in Russia, he studied at Moscow High School, Frankfurt Hochschule, and undertook postgraduate study in concert and opera singing with bass Berthold Possemeyer.
His roles include Prince Gremin, Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte, Samuel, Tom/Un ballo in maschera, Colline/La bohème, Philip II/Don Carlos, Seneca/L’incoronazione di Poppea, Rocco/Fidelio, the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello/Don Giovanni, Plumkett/Martha, Badger, Priest/The Cunning Little Vixen, Sobakin/The Tsar’s Bride, Water Goblin/Rusalka, Veit Pogner/Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg and Osmin/Die Entfürhung aus dem Serail, at venues such as the Champs-Elysées, Dutch Nationale Reisopera, and in Geneva, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Lyon, Dortmund, Salzburg, Hanover, Vienna, Manheim and Bonn. Concerts include Verdi’s Requiem, Dvorák’s and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s St Matthew Passion, Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht and Mozart’s Requiem.
