Born in the Ukraine, he studied at the National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music in Kiev, the Wiener Musikhochschule, and the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart.

He made his London debut this February with the Philharmonia, in a concert tour of the UK featuring Hélène Grimaud and Steven Isserlis. Other opera credits include Eugene Onegin and Un ballo in maschera (Opéra National du Rhin); Eine Florentinische Tragödie and Idomeneo (Opéra National de Lorraine); The Adventures of Mr Broucek (with Orchestre de la Suisse Romande for Geneva Opera); The Queen of Spades (Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg).

In 2009 he will become Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
