She studied at the RNCM, winning the Webster Booth Competition and a Peter Moores Foundation scholarship.

Roles sung include Maid/Jenufa (GFO); Geneviève/Pelléas et Mélisande (GOT), and she has sung with Opera Ireland, Opera Holland Park and Grange Park Opera, including Madame de la Haltière/Cendrillon, Filipyevna, Azucena/Il trovatore, Marthe/Faust, and she played Madame-By Ends in the RNCM staging and recording of Vaughan Williams’s The Pilgrim’s Progress.

For Scottish Opera she created the roles of Margaret Muir in the premiere of David Home’s Friend of the People, and Mary Lamb in Monster! by Sally Beamish. She has also sung the Nurse and Old Woman/Inés de Castro (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Teatro Coliseu Oporto); Schwertleite/Die Walküre, Erda/Das Rheingold (Edinburgh Festival). In 2005 she made her debuts at the ROH as She-Ancient/The Midsummer Marriage, and Opéra de Lyon as Maid/Jenufa; Filipyevna (WNO).

She has recorded The Makropulos Case and Kát’a Kabanová on Chandos. Future plans include Mother Goose/The Rake’s Progress, Third Maid/Elektra (ROH); Mama Lucia/Cavalleria rusticana (ENO). She returns to the ROH in 2009 to sing Brigitta/Die tote Stadt.
