Iain Mackay

Dancer/Eugene Onegin

Born in Glasgow, he trained as a Junior Associate of Scottish Ballet, before joining the Dance School of Scotland. He spent two years at the Royal Ballet Upper School, before joining the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1999. He was promoted to Soloist in 2001 and Principal in 2003.

He recently appeared alongside his wife Silvia Jimenez in roles in Carmina burana with the ballet of the New National Theatre Tokyo. His repertory includes Colas/La Fille mal gardée, Gypsy Lover/The Two Pigeons, title role/Apollo, Third Movement/Western Symphony, Prodigal Son, Arthur, Mordred/Arthur, Beast/Beauty and the Beast, Christian/Cyrano, Edward, Grim Reaper/Edward II, Troy/Far from the Madding Crowd, Salvation Army/Hobson’s Choice, Third Seminarian/Carmina burana, Volga Vouty/The Nutcracker Sweeties, ‘Summer’/The Seasons, Romeo/The Shakespeare Suite, Imsety/The Sons of Horus, Southern Cape Zebra/‘Still Life’ at the Penguin Café, Flowers of the Forest, Concert Fantasy, Albrecht/Giselle, Caviello/Pulcinella, Moondog/The Lady and the Fool, Romeo/Romeo and Juliet.
