Glyndebourne On Tour 2009
Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
A revival of the 2006 Festival production
Sung in Italian with English supertitles
'The closest that Glyndebourne has come to Mozartian perfection for quite some time.'
The Sunday Telegraph, 2006
Once the Cinderella amongst Mozart’s mature operas – condemned as immoral by no less a figure than Beethoven and dismissed as misogynistic by some later commentators – Così fan tutte (whose title might be translated ‘Typical women!’) is now regarded by many connoisseurs as perhaps the composer’s finest opera: a wickedly seductive comedy of erotic manners and amorous deception (and self-deception) by both the sexes. Nicholas Hytner’s elegantly classical 2006 Festival production rejoices in all the subtle characterization and dramatic surefootedness that you’d expect from the Director of the National Theatre. Featuring a genuinely youthful cast of confused young lovers, Mozart’s opera is conducted by the young German Patrick Lange, a former assistant to Claudio Abbado and currently Kapellmeister at the Komische Oper in Berlin.
The performance lasts approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes including a 20 minute interval.
