Born in Curaçao, part of the Netherlands Antilles, she studied at Hogeschool Voor de Kunsten in Utrecht and at the Netherlands Opera Studio. She represented her home country at the 2003 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and participated in the European Concert Hall Association’s (ECHO) Rising Star Programme.
She has sung Carmen (Stuttgart Staatstheater, Riga); Tolomeo/Giulio Cesare (La Monnaie, Netherlands Opera); Suzuki/Madama Butterfly (Hanover); Melanto, Fortuna/Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria (Netherlands Opera). She is signed to Philips and received the Edison Audience Award for her debut album Corazón. She presents her own annual classical music festival Krossin’ Gouda in the city of Gouda. Future engagements include Baba the Turk/The Rake’s Progress (La Monnaie); Tan Dun’s Marco Polo (Amsterdam); La Cenerentola (National Reisopera).
