Born in New Zealand, he studied at the RCM and is a former member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme (ROH).
Roles include Demetrius/A Midsummer Night’s Dream (GFO); Sid/Albert Herring (GOT); Papageno/Die Zauberflöte, Ping/Turandot, Schaunard, Marcello/La bohème, Eisenstein/Die Fledermaus, Podestat/Le Docteur Miracle, Masetto/Don Giovanni, Marco/Gianni Schicchi, the title role in Eugene Onegin, Ned Keene/Peter Grimes, Silvio/Pagliacci. He has sung Mill-hand/Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Wigmaker/Ariadne auf Naxos, Junius/The Rape of Lucretia, Marullo/Rigoletto, Silvano/Un ballo in maschera, the title role in Orphée, Happy/La fanciulla del West, Schaunard (ROH); Sergeant Belcore/L’elisir d’amore, Yamadori/Madama Butterfly (Opera Australia); Valentin/Faust (Opera NZ).
He has given recitals with pianists Martineau, Johnson, Lepper, Asti and Matthewman. Recordings include Melot/Tristan und Isolde (EMI Classics and in concert with the BBC SO for Warner Classics). Future engagements include Ramiro/L’Heure espagnole (Southern Opera).
