She studied at the RSAMD and began her career with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company.
Roles include Háta/The Bartered Bride (GFO); Governess/Cyrano de Bergerac, Yeta Zimmerman/Sophie’s Choice, Nurse/Boris Godunov (ROH); Katisha/The Mikado (ENO, La Fenice); Madame Popova/The Bear (Cerniers Festival); Solokha/Cherevichki (Garsington); Auntie/Peter Grimes, Katisha, Mother/Hänsel und Gretel, Hostess/Boris Godunov (Nationale Reisopera); Mother/Mavra (Greek National Opera). She has sung with GOT, Opera North, New Israeli Opera, Stuttgart Staatsoper, the OTC and at the Edinburgh Festival.
Concert engagements include oratorios with the major UK orchestras, RTE and National Orchestra of Ireland, the Ulster Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and BBC CO. She has appeared in concerts of Broadway music with the Hallé Orchestra, RLPO and the orchestra of Opera North. Her recordings include Marcellina/Le nozze di Figaro (Chandos); Patience, Orpheus in the Underworld and HMS Pinafore with D’Oyly Carte. She is a regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 2.
