We are looking for two assistants to join the running wardrobe team for this year’s Glyndebourne Tour. We are touring three productions The Magic Flute, Hansel & Gretel and Carmen.
Job Description
Job Title; Running Wardrobe Assistant
Responsible To; Running Wardrobe Manager
Direct Reports; None
Key Responsibilities
- Report to and liaise with the running wardrobe manager/ deputy manager on a daily basis
- Assist with alterations and preparations of costume for rehearsals and technical weeks for all productions
- All aspects of laundry, including hand washing machine washing , line drying ,starching and pressing
- To carry out maintenance and general repairs of costumes as directed by the Running wardrobe manager
- Assist with the daily changeover of costumes for respective operas during the season and Tour
- Assist with all get ins and get outs through out the tour
- Ensure the good organisation of dressing rooms at all times in regards to costume and accessories.
- Dress artists and supervise dressing staff, as required, and demonstrate good customer care.
- Ensure a high standard is constantly maintained, in all aspects of the running wardrobe department during the season and tour.
- Be able to communicate information clearly to other team members or casual staff.
- Contribute to the development of systems and processes within the department as appropriate
Skills & Experience
Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge of fabric care, specialist maintenance techniques and posses proficiency in both machine and hand sewing.
Also required is experience of dressing & maintaining modern & period garments in a repertory theatre environment.
It is essential to be committed to work as part of a team and also on own initiative
They should posses a positive attitude, be able to work extended hours under pressure, and change projects at short notice in regard to deadlines and last-minute changes.
Special Requirements
The positions will be based at Glyndebourne from Monday 1st September to Saturday 1st November 2008. The roles will then go out on tour to Woking, Stoke on Trent, Milton Keynes, Norwich and Plymouth with a week preparing the costumes for storage at Glyndebourne finishing on Friday 12th December 2008.
Salary & Benefits
We offer a minimum weekly pay rate of £308.10 for a 39 hour week (£7.90 per hour). You will be required to work longer shifts over 6 days during the tour. Overtime rates apply for any shift longer than 8 hours and Saturday & Sunday working and average earnings are likely to be £ insert/week.
Assistants will also be eligible for additional travel, accommodation and subsistence payments in line with TMA guidelines. We are able to supply a digs list for accommodation around Glyndebourne and the touring venues.
We also offer 6.8 weeks holiday inclusive of bank holidays pro rata, and a Stakeholder pension with an employer contribution (after 3 months).
We have excellent on site catering facilities, can offer a beautiful working environment, the opportunity to see world class opera and for those without their own transport while working at Glyndebourne, we have a free minibus service to and from Lewes railway station.
