Wind Turbine Proposal

Glyndebourne wishes to take action to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions through the use of renewable energy.

The proposed wind turbine would enable Glyndebourne to generate the equivalent of all the electricity the opera house uses each year from renewable sources and it reflects Glyndebourne’s desire to power the opera house in cleaner, greener and more efficient ways.

The use of electricity and gas at Glyndebourne currently releases 1,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year.  The proposed wind turbine would reduce Glyndebourne’s carbon dioxide emissions by 855 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The proposed wind turbine would benefit the wider community by:

  • Making a significant reduction in Glyndebourne’s carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Making a contribution towards the achievement of county, regional and national renewable energy targets.
  • Raising awareness of the environmental benefits of wind energy development.
  • Contributing to Glyndebourne’s longer term financial viability and security of local employment by reducing the company’s long term energy costs.
