John Deathridge

John Deathridge is currently President of the Royal Musical Association and King Edward Professor of Music and Head of the Department of Music at King’s College London. He has also taught at the Universities of Cambridge, Princeton and Chicago as well as participating in many public lectures and broadcasts music and opera in Germany, Britain and the US.

His books include the only full-length published study to date of Wagner’s Rienzi (Oxford 1977), the New Grove Wagner (with Carl Dahlhaus, London 1984), and the English edition of the Wagner Handbook (with Ulrich Müller and Peter Wapnewski, Harvard University Press 1992). He is co-editor of a new critical edition of Lohengrin (Eulenburg, 2007) and is currently working on books about Beethoven and German music up to the present day. His latest book, Wagner Beyond Good and Evil, will be published by the University of California Press in July 2008.
