L'incoronazione di Poppea Thursday 31 July, 7.00pm - c10.30pm
Glyndebourne's BBC Proms performances are always hotly anticipated. This year is no exception. Glyndebourne's already sold-out new production of L'incoronazione di Poppea will be performed at the Royal Albert Hall under the direction of renowned Baroque conductor, Emmanuelle Haïm.
The specially devised semi-staging will feature Danielle de Niese, who thrilled audiences as Cleopatra in Glyndebourne's Guilio Cesare, French counter-tenor Christophe Dumaux, who gave an acclaimed performance as Cleopatra's warring sibling, Tolomeo, and the British mezzo Alice Coote, who will be making her Glyndebourne debut at this year's Festival.
Monteverdi’s L'incoronazione di Poppea is one of the earliest operas in the repertoire and tells the story of Emperor Nero's forbidden passion for Poppea. To find out more visit: about the opera, synopsis and edition details.
The performance will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
Proms Intro, Thursday 31 July, 5.00pm
Ticket holders can attend a pre-performance event at 5pm featuring Emmanuelle Haïm in discussion with Suzy Klein, followed by a presentation of the Poppea film project (a joint project from Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Glyndebourne Education). An edited audio version of the event will be available on the BBC website.
